Virginia Jones Obituary

Virginia Mae Jones was born on June 6, 1947, to Leslie Jones and Carmen McKee Jones. She made her journey home on March 23, 2024, with her loving family at her side. Growing up, Virginia spent a lot of her time with her brothers. She was a cowgirl and jack of all trades. Virginia worked for the Sho Pai daycare center, Duck Valley Housing, and Pacific Western Electronic. She had one daughter, Audrey Bonales. Virginia gave selflessly and loved to teach our Native traditions, sharing her knowledge and ensuring she passed along the culture to future generations. She was a drum maker and taught youth how to sing. She loved fishing and being outdoors, especially gathering traditional Native medicines. She loved to travel to powwows and loved visiting with family and friends. She sang with the Four Winds drum group for many years. The highlight of her travels was performing with the Eagle Bear Clan drum group at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. The love of her life was her daughter Audrey, as well as her grandkids, great-grandkids, and all the rest of her family. She was an important part in the lives of her family and all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

Virginia is survived by her daughter Audrey Bonales (Jesus), grandkids Stillman Knight III, Brittney Bonales, Rebecca Bonales, Jesus Bonales Jr., great-grandkids, brothers Gary Jones Sr., Dale Shaw Sr., Leslie Jones Jr., and Terry Jones Sr., sisters Mabelline Shaw Prior, Donna Shaw, Diane Williams, Jeanette Jones, and Lori Jones. She is preceded in death by her brothers Wilbur Shaw, Clifton Shaw, Cordell Jones, Barlow Jones, and Erwin Jones, and sisters Louinda Shaw Cleveland and Thelma Knight.
